Japanese dance is based on ritual and story-telling motions while containing emotions. The motions in traditional dance are very very different from those of a contemporary westernized japanese woman. To learn japanese traditional dance was an interesting experience for me, I was able to gain an understanding of how women long ago would have felt and acted in daily life.
I have also been interested in what I and others would feel if I performed Japanese dance in western culture. To dance the traditional way seemed to be too serious and it actually resulted in biiiiiiiiiiiig silence on that night, yet I wanted to keep it serious - I like the serious and mystic part of Japanese tradition. The dance on that night was for ceremonial occasions, mainly praying for happiness. Did I bring mystic experience and happiness to you on that night?
